Kia ora, my name is Mairi and I lead Animal Welfare Solutions Ltd. I have over 20 years experience as an animal welfare scientist, researching and advising on animal welfare matters across government and industry.
‘They’ say love your work. I have always been passionate about animal welfare and decided to pursue an animal science career, as I wanted to take a tangible and scientific approach to finding practical solutions to improve welfare.
I have been fortunate enough to have been engaged to work with a number of livestock industries across a range of different species including dairy cows, dairy goats, beef cattle, sheep, chickens, pigs, horses, deer and greyhounds. See my LinkedIn profile and publication list for more detail.
I spend my spare time travelling, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, dog walking, and enjoying the stunning beaches and forests we are lucky to have on our NZ doorstep. I have travelled extensively with my research and for fun, with an African safari trip being a recent highlight.
Animal Welfare Solutions has close collaborations and links with universities, government and research teams across NZ and internationally with a wide range of skills.
Organisations I have worked with include…
